Sweater Weather Is In Full Swing!
The chilly fall weather has arrived! Time to crank the thermostat and dig out the extra blankets from storage… Or maybe not. We’d like to share six great tips and tricks to help you stay warm this season, without breaking the bank.
Move your couch: We know, moving furniture can be a pain, bear with us. Sometimes the “perfect” spot for your couch is right in front of your heat source. Not only is placing your couch in front of your heat source dangerous, it’s also blocking the heat from filling up your home. Try relocating your couch during the chilly fall and winter months to make sure you’re warm and cozy all season long!
Put your curtains to work: When the sun is shining into your home, keep the curtains open. Let the sun heat the inside of your home throughout the day, then at night, close them up and let him act as another layer of insulation in your home. This is a small trick that will make a huge difference on those cold days.
Draft-proof your home: Doors, windows and even electrical sockets can provide spaces for the warmth in your home to escape. There are a wide variety of draft-proofing products that are inexpensive and easy to install. Spending a little extra time and money will allow you to save on your energy bill in the long run!
Add area rugs: Just like curtains help insulate your windows, rugs are a great way to add a layer of insulation to your floors. Try adding area rugs to the main living spaces of your home. They will keep the heat in and add a cozy touch to the design in your home.
Lower your thermostat: It’s incredibly tempting to crank the thermostat when the cold weather rolls in. Unfortunately cranking the thermostat will result in a hefty heating bill. Consider lowering your thermostat by just a few degrees, this will keep your energy bill in check throughout the fall and winter months. If you find your home is too chilly, we’d recommend a piece of advice that every parent likes to preach “put a sweater on!” Put on a warm sweater and some cozy slippers, you won’t regret it when you see the savings on your bills at the end of the season!
Take advantage of rebates: This may be the easiest way to save money this season… Fortis BC is offering double the rebates on select energy-efficient improvements! These rebates are available from now until December 31st, 2020, so make sure to take advantage while you can.
We’d also like to remind you of some important safety checks to make prior to turning your heat on this season. Remember to check your battery powered Co detectors and replace the batteries as needed to ensure they are ready to function all season long. We also recommend that you check your furnace filter before firing up the heat! These small checks are very important to the safety and wellbeing of you and your family.
